My name is Alysha Selvarajah and I was accepted in TKS this year (2020-2021). In all honestly, TKS has completely changed my life. It has not only taught me more about emerging technology, but it has helped to change my mindset. Prior to TKS, I was an extremely shy child. I felt very nervous when presenting and often chose to not answer questions out of fear. The directors of TKS created an environment that allowed me to feel comfortable and allow for more growth. They offered me guidance in and out of sessions; providing me with key feedback and tips. Currently, I am halfway through the program and have been able to speak/present in front of leading figures in AI, cellular agriculture, etc. It has been amazing to be able to present without feeling the nerves of before! I owe all of this to TKS. As well, TKS really provided me with the opportunity to fulfill my dream of impacting people. From joining activism groups to leading donations, I've participated in many initiatives. However, TKS really allowed me to explore emerging technologies to see how they could impact people. As of right now, I am currently participating in the TKS x United Nations challenge, where I am working with a group on how to improve female education in Lesotho, Africa. It has been such an eye-opening experience and I've been able to better understand how large organizations like the UN tackle an issue like this. Overall, TKS is a community that encourages one another to do better as well as push for growth! It is an incredible experience and I would recommend any youth looking for an opportunity to join.
