TKS has been a life-changing experience that has taught me so much, so far. I've changed the way I look at so many situations, and I've learned how to optimize my energy and mind into things I really care about, and even into things I'm not too fond of. I'm surrounded by like-minded people that all want to make a difference in our world, and I've built amazing friendships and memories with some of these people too. I've learned that the worst-case scenario in our head isn't actually as bad as it seems and that it's better to get things done than to dwell on them and try to make them perfect. I've learned how to take what I'm passionate about and use it to actually do something about it, which has influenced my personal desire to make a difference in our world.
Before I joined TKS, I was unaware of my potential and didn't try to push myself to do more than I was already doing. My days simply consisted of school, reading, teaching myself coding, and the occasional research rabbit hole of whatever I found interesting at that moment. I didn't push myself to do more than simply look things up and read about them - It was just brief knowledge, enough to hold a simple conversation. I didn't try to push myself out of my comfort zone. Talking to people that interest me, but are strangers? I would have never even considered reaching out to them. One could even say that I was pretty ordinary.
Climate change/global warming, and the environment as a whole is a topic I hold a lot of passion for. With that, I've found a way to incorporate that passion into my work. Currently, I'm learning about how the study of genomics and gene editing technology can be used to help fight against climate change/global warming and its terrible effects on the Earth.
