Gene Editing
TKS was an amazing experience: it taught me study techniques, how to teamwork, research and present under pressure. I have studied emerging technology from bioscience, engineering, to AI and computing. Through the TKS explores, I have learned how science I am learning in high school is applied by real companies to solve modern problems of hunger, disease, pollution, climate change etc. I have learned from mentors and collaborated with outstanding peers from all over the world who now form my support network. The knowledge I gained through TKS in gene editing, synthetic biology, BCI and computing inspired me to study bioengineering at UBC.
Before I joined TKS, I was in a bubble unaware of how many other students my age are interested in similar topics. TKS connected me to the network of mentors and peers and showed me how we can motivate each other and learn from one another.
I have studied water pollution, regenerative medicine, neural networks, AI, and how to apply blockchain technology to Healthcare systems. I participated in numerous STEM competitions and developed my longevity and gene editing focus. Skills I gained in TKS resulted in my team placing 2nd in a UBC geeringUp hackathon in December 2021. Now, I am studying how synthetic biology can alleviate pathogenic biofilms in a hospital setting, and hope to participate in the upcoming TKS iGEM competition.
