Shielding Space: Hydrogen Tech for Astronauts and Satellites
Muhammad came to America only 4 years ago without knowing how to speak English. Since then he’s become student body president and a founder in the Space Tech space. He interned at NASA L’SPACE Academy, project managing the build of a new concept for the Mars rover. From there he dove into the problem of radiation exposure in outer space and how we can best shield spacecrafts and astronauts while traveling.

Nico is focused on applying AI as a solution to high impact fields like healthcare and education. He’s launched an AI tool, to help educators verify the usage of chatGPT to complete schoolwork. His tool has been adopted by hundreds of educators over the last year. Nico interned with Mount Sinai, an internationally recognized acute care academic health sciences center.

Using AI and Drones to Double Farmers’ Incomes in Kenya
Jesse is building Vunatec - a mobile app and machine learning algorithm to help smallholder farmers in Kenya reduce food waste and raise their income by 2X. Vunatec uses drones and machine vision to reduce waste post-harvest snd provide a digital bridge to close the gap for farmers to go to market. Jesse has raised funds for her project from the Motsepe Foundation and the Cansbridge Fellowship.

Jaya is exploring hormone testing as a viable, cost-effective, and accessible option to assess a patient’s metabolism of medicine. Unlike genetic testing, hormonal assessments may offer a more straightforward method of understanding the body’s response to medications. She also secured a fellowship at Boston University working under a Harvard professor to further Alzheimer’s research.

Innovating Bioplastics and Solar Cells as a Morehead-Cain Scholar
Naila is working on a solution to address the global consumption of fossil fuels. Her main project is the creation of a flexible plastic-free solar cell. This is the first of it’s kind advancement that leverages solar’s intersection with nanotechnology. She’s also developing a bioplastic from duckweed through a collaboration with Pond Biomaterials, and has been working in the lab at Carleton University. Naila is a Morehead-Cain Scholar at UNC, has spoken at Web Summit, and is a two-time published author.

Pavi is working on her project, Monitor.PD. A machine-learning app that aims to revolutionize how Parkinson’s Disease is monitored and tracked. She was granted $25K from Buildspace in 2023 and was a RISE Global winner in 2024 for her project. Pavi is one of Canada's Youth Entrepreneur of the Year, LOI’s 30 under 30, and she’s spoken on global stages at WebSummit Portugal, the Women of Influence+, and Change for Leadership conferences. Pavi has also written AI briefs for the White House, provided microloans across Nigeria, and prototyped nanotechnology chips in Europe.

Scaling Microalgae for Biofuels, Vaccines, and Clean Water Solutions
Froma a lab in his parent’s basement, Aliyan is experimenting with customizable photobioreactors to figure out how they can be made cheaper. Microalgae have many useful applications from biofuels to edible vaccines to sustainable water treatment. However, these applications are currently roadblocked by their high cost of photobioreactors, algae-growing tanks that need to be made cheaper in order to use these applications at scale. Aliyan was a winner of the 2024 Canada Science Fair for his research.
